Corporate Social Responsibility

"A supplier with no ethical and environmental conscience is not a good supplier. We do not look for the product that costs less, but the product that gives best value” — Fausto Bellamico (CEO and General Manager).

Corporate Social Responsibility is explicit in a willingness to measure, manage and integrate the economic, social and environmental impact of business activities and be accountable for them to stakeholders (employees, suppliers, customers, partners, shareholders, communities, etc.). For the Emak Group, which recently made a formal statement of its commitment in this regard, being socially responsible does not begin and end simply with fulfilling statutory obligations, but signifies going a step further, investing more in human capital, in stakeholder relations and in sustainable development. Among the many and various tools available to companies for implementing Social Responsibility programmes, Emak elected to follow the procedure for obtaining SA 8000 Social Accountability Certification and ISO 14000 Environmental Management System Certification.

SA 8000 is the standard most widely adopted and recognized at international level, by way of which organizations can certify the ethical integrity of their manufacturing processes and, indirectly, of their supply and distribution chain. The standard is based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, on International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions and on the UN Rights of the Child Convention, and specifies observance of a series of minimum requirements relating to: child labour, indentured labour, health and safety, freedom of association, discrimination, disciplinary practices, working hours and pay.
For Emak, SA 8000 Certification means undertaking a commitment to the company’s employees and to the community, involving suppliers and customers in a virtuous circle aimed at safeguarding human rights, and maximizing consumer and investor protection.
Emak will complete the SA 8000 Certification process within the first few months of 2007.

ISO 14000 Environmental Management System Certification is a voluntary procedure by way of which organizations can improve the management of environmental issues connected with their activities, with the end in view of preventing pollution and protecting natural resources.
Applicable to any organization anywhere in the world, the ISO 14000 standard reflects the general consensus, at international level, as to what are considered “best practices” on environmental protection, and provides managerial tools for those organizations looking to keep the environmental impact of their activity under control and generally improve their environmental performance.
For Emak, ISO 14000 Certification represents the first step in making a constant commitment to sustainable development, safeguarding resources today, and the welfare of future generations tomorrow.
Emak successfully completed the process of Certification to ISO 14000 in October 2006.
